The Shelby County Democratic Party must express its gratitude to the many who have supported our efforts this election season. First, thanks to our voters! Without your votes, our voices would not have been heard and represented. We were not in the majority, but we were a force to be acknowledged, due to your civic participation!
While we experienced some temporary disappointments because our Democratic candidates were not elected, we still plan to continue building. We have come a long way, but in Alabama, we have a long way to go.
Many thanks to Senator Doug Jones. We thank him for being a leader of integrity while representing Alabama and the nation in Washington, D.C. We thank him for being a candidate of integrity who was truly knowledgeable about the substantive issues that challenge our country. He made us proud. Alabama lost by not re-electing Senator Jones. The fact that the majority of Alabama chose Party over substance, experience, knowledge, and intellect in no way discredits Senator Jones.
Thank you, Laura Casey, for creating such significant awareness regarding issues associated with our power bills and the lack of transparency surrounding the Alabama Public Service Commission. Laura’s advocacy has been enlightening for all. The lyrics of the song,
You’re Gonna Hear from Me, by Frank Sinatra, comes to mind when thinking of Laura’s energy, personality, and determination: “Move over sun and give her some sky, she has her wings, she’s ready to fly. She once was unknown, but now that she’s flown, you’re gonna hear from [Laura Casey] on the ballot again.”
We are grateful to the Alabama Democratic Party for reorganizing in time to assist with messaging and electioneering. Thanks to the poll workers, poll watchers, phone bankers, and sign deliverers. Thanks to those who sat this one out due to Covid-19 concerns—we applaud you for prioritizing the safety of yourselves and others, and we need you to live to fight another day! A very special thanks to Executive Committee member, Grace Graham, for spending late hours at the Shelby County Courthouse securing the count on behalf of the Shelby County Democratic Party. Lastly, thanks to all of the unnamed members and supporters who are too numerous to mention here, but who contributed all the same!
