Shelby Democrats Book Group
January 14 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 14, via ZOOM. The zoom opens at 6:00 pm for anyone who wants general conversation time. We’ll start the book discussion at 6:30 pm and end on time at 8:00 pm.
Anyone who wishes to join can sign up by contacting Brenda Harris at addiesgranna@gmail.com.
Our January book is “A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II” by Sonia Purnell. A biography of Virginia Hall, an American spy during WWII who helped revolutionize secret warfare despite having a prosthetic leg and being the target of the Gestapo. Cheryl Kruse will lead our discussion.
In February, we will be reading “Cahokia Jazz, A Novel” by Francis Spufford. A “smoky, brooding noir set in the 1920s” (Slate) that reimagines how American history would be different if, instead of being decimated, indigenous populations had thrived. Cheryl Olin will lead.
